Earthenware: Dust-pressedThe technique of manufacturing clay tiles from dust-clay, ie clay which has been dried to approx 8% moisture content. The resultant damp powder is placed into a screw press and compacted under high pressure to create a tile body which is ready for decoration and can be fired without further drying. This method is the basis of all modern mass-production of tiles.
