Guy Green, Liverpool
Guy Green was in partnership with John Sadler, as publishers of a newspaper in Liverpool. They hit on the idea of printing with ceramic ink onto a thin tissue paper and then transferring the image to a tile or other ceramic item that had been glazed and fired previously. The tissue was rubbed face down onto the tile and then peeled back leaving the sticky ink behind. In 1756 they swore an affidavit that they had decorated over 1200 tiles in a single day, using the technique.
