H & R Johnson Ltd., Cobridge and Tunstall, Staffordshire
In 1901, Harry Johnson received a telegram from his father whilst serving with the Territorial Army in the Boer War. The telegram instructed him to come home immediately as his father had bought him a tile factory!. This was the former Crystal Pottery and Porcelain works. Harry had a couple of hours instruction from his father and was then 'left to get on with it'. H & R Johnsons grew to become the biggest of the UK tile manufacturers, making a wide range of tiles to the present day.Your Exploration Trail
