Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Ltd., Etruria, Staffordshire
Josiah Wedgwood and Co were latecomers to tile making, only opening a tile dept in 1881 under the managership of George Anthony Marsden. He developed a patent 'Impressed tile' which was really a mechanical Barbotine technique. He sold the rights to the patent to Wedgwood in return for employment as tile Works Manager. The agreement ended acrimoniously in 1891 and he left to establish his own company, Marsden Tiles.Your Exploration Trail
